Biography
My artistic journey started in 2018, after my retirement from government employment. I graduated from Howard University in 1981 with a BA in Political Science. My art education is self-taught with voracious reading on techniques and learning media properties. I supplement this reading with occasional classes on drawing, painting and pastel at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia, and Smithsonian Associates in Washington D.C.
Artist Statement
I started out in encaustics. I saw Jasper Johns encaustic painting and fell in love with the media. After awhile I moved from encaustics to oil sticks. It was at this point that i decided to concentrate on the figurative side of art creation. I have not found my voice yet, but i find myself learning towards figurativephoto expressionism. I have tried and will continue to explore abstraction, however. I discovered Elizabeth Catlett’s and Dox Thrash’s prints, fell in love with their work and have been inspired produce monoprints which i call aqua linocuts. I invite you on my journey as I strive to grow and develop as an artist.
